Yeye Luisah Teish: Storyteller and Spiritual Counselor to Speak at Virtual Potluck


If you have not heard already, Genesis is having a Virtual Potluck July 24th at 7PM where we will share food stories and words that help bring us together amongst the chaos of our world today. There will be a number of speakers joining us at the Virtual Potluck including Yeye Luisah Teish. Yeye Luisah Teish is a storyteller-writer, an artist-activist, and a spiritual guidance counselor.

Yeye Luisah Teish was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father was an African Methodist Episcopal and her mother was a Catholic, of Haitian, French, and Choctaw heritage. She is an initiated elder (Iyanifa) in the Ifa/Orisha tradition of the West African Diaspora. Yeye Teish is one of the most well-known Yoruba priestesses worldwide and people from all around the world celebrate her in goddess circles as a writer and ritual-maker.

As a writer, Teish is the author of Jambalaya: The Natural Woman’s Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals. She has also co-authored a book with Kuhuna Leilani Birelyand she co-authored On Holy Ground: Commitment and Devotion to Sacred Land. Teish's most recent work is Spirit Revealing, Color Healing a book of Zen Doodles. Make sure to checkout these books!

Currently, Yeye Teish is working to address the global challenges we presently face such as global food security, water quality and access, reforestation, and violence against women and girls. Teish also works to cultivate kinship between members of the human community and to ensure that our actions are guided by spiritual integrity and growth.
