Led by the Justice and Action Team of St. John's, our objective is to pose questions of the mayoral candidates that reveal who they are, what they believe, and what they can authentically accomplish for the city of Oakland. Oakland Special Election

What’s on the Ballot?

Beginning March 17, registered voters will be sent ballots in the mail. Completed, signed ballots must be put into a ballot drop box, mailed back, or hand delivered to the Registrar of Voters on or before April 15.

In-person early voting will also begin on March 17 at the Alameda County Registrar of Voters’ office. Other yet-to-be-determined sites will be open for in-person voting.

What are Oakland Voters voting on?

Oakland Mayor: There are currently 9 people running for mayor and as usual, Oakland will utilize ranked-choice voting.  Voters will be able to choose five candidates and rank them in order of preference on your ballot.

Note that both the new mayor and District Two councilperson will serve through 2026, after which regularly scheduled elections will be held.

District 2 City Councilperson: Six people are currently running for District 2 City Council. This is also a ranked-choice election.

Measure A, Sales Tax Increase: Whether to increase Oakland’s sales tax rate from 10.25% to 10.75%--which would raise an estimated $20 million for the city to spend police, fire, public works, and other services paid for out of the general fund.
