Justice For People With Disabilities

"We are the largest minority group, but we often get forgotten or are not even invited to the table. . .but I have a big mouth. I always have to speak up." - Shira (from the Arc of Alameda)

Genesis chose the issue to push for Disability Justice in 2015. Although California voters has approved adequate funds to ensure that people with disabilities can share fully in the "Dream", our legislators have failed to follow this mandate. People of Color experience a 50-70% disparity in services from the Regional Centers (who are charged to provide services for those with intellectual or developmental disabilities), as compared to White families. We are currently looking for individuals, families and those who support them to share their stories of disparity. If you are interested in giving your feedback or getting involved, contact us here.
