Victory for Public Transit: (Let's) Connect, Bay Area!

We did it! On July 1st, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) has announced that the Connect Bay Area regional transit funding measure has officially qualified for the November 2026 ballot after elections officials confirmed the campaign submitted enough valid signatures across Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. The announcement follows the Connect Bay Area campaign's submission of more than 305,000 signatures in May, far exceeding the 186,000 valid signatures required to qualify the measure. In the certification, the District Elections Official found that an estimated 241,964 total valid signatures were submitted (based on the random sample signature verification technique), exceeding the 110% threshold of 205,831 valid signatures required to qualify the measure for the ballot. Genesis member congregations hosted petition signing gatherings at coffee hours, adult education events and other church-related meetings. "I support this measure because I am an elder who is beginning to rely on public transit rather than driving," said Susan (a parishioner of St. John's Episcopal).
